III Edition International Composition Contest “Ettore Pozzoli” 2019


1) The City of Seregno has established the International Composition Contest “Ettore Pozzoli”, inspired by the figure of the illustrious Italian Maestro, regarding piano compositions designed for young performers.

2) The competition is open to composers of any nationality and age.

3) Inspired by the great tradition of the piano literature for youth (Bach, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Bartók, Kabalevsky, Kurtag etc.), the compositions in the competition must have  a technical and expressive value befitting for pianists aged between 6 and 14 years. The Compositions must be written for a single performer (two-hand piano).  It is not permitted to use other instruments and electroacoustic equipment.

4) Each competitor may submit multiple pieces. Each of them, even if divided into sections, must not exceed the duration of 5 minutes.

5) The submitted compositions must be unpublished, in print or audio formats, nor be commercial audio/video.  Also, they must never have been rewarded in other competitions.

6) Registration fee for each composition is €50.00 (net of bank charges) to be paid by:

The registration fee is non-refundable.

7) Each submitted composition, identified with a nickname, but free of any useful sign of recognition that would otherwise identify the composer, must be submitted by the 30th of April 2019, to the competition secretary as follows:

a) in paper format (one hard copies, which won’t be returned), to be sent to the following address:

The envelope should contain the composition and another sealed envelope, marked with the same nickname, detailing the following information:

  • - Name  and surname of the composer
  • - Place and date of birth
  • - Nationality 
  • - Domicile, email address and at least a telephone number 
  • - One recent photographs in JPG
  • - A brief curriculum vitae
  • - A statement of the originality of the composition and the requirements referred to in point 5) 
  • - Authorization to perform, publish, record and grant disclosure of the submitted composition (If the author has an exclusive deal, a release from this deal has to be attached).
  • - Copy of receipt of payment of the registration fee.

at the end of the composition the e-mail must specify the 9 data envisaged for the paper transmission listed above (Name, surname etc..).

The secretariat of the competition will guarantee absolute confidentiality of these data, towards the jury.

In the case of several submitted compositions by the same composer, each piece has to be provided with its own nickname and its own envelope (sending procedure a)or e-mail (sending procedure b), complete with the required documents.

8) The international jury will be composed of renowned musicians:

Michael Zink (Germany)

The judges' decision is final. The result of the competition will be published on the competition’s website.

9) Prizes: 

the competition provides a prize money of € 3,500.00 consisting of:

1° prize € 2,000.00;

2° prize € 1,000.00;

3° prize €    500.00

The jury may point out worthy compositions too. The winning compositions will be published by Casa Ricordi of Milan: they will also be compulsory piece, optionally, for category D during the edition of 2020 of the International Competition for young pianists "The Pozzolino " and they, however, all be performed during the Competition.

11) The Court of Monza shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from these conditions.
